Jan Mohammad Abbasi
Naib Ameer (Vice President)
Maulana Jan
Mohammad Abbasi was born on November 1, 1925 in a village near Larkana (Sindh). He
completed the conventional religious education (dars-e-nizami) starting in his village,
first through his father, who was himself a great scholar and a successful practitioner in
tib (oriental medicine). Maulana Jan Mohammad was enroled in a school for
English language, yet his father decided he should follow only one line and specialize in
Arabic, Philosophy and Logic. He, however, privately managed to learn English. In Arabic
(Maulvi Fazil) he got the first position in Sind. |

In the Sindh politics, the
British - Hur clash is an important event, which shaped the political thinking
of most conscious families. Abbasis family was no exception. This political
background decided young Jan Mohammads future and he actively participated even in
the pre-independence political activities. Although he remained in the area of education
till 1955 and also helped his father at his clinic, but he was more and more inclined
towards politics. He came in contact with the Jamaats activities in 1949 and
got his full membership for the party in 1953.
After joining Jamaat
he took active part in the organizational and training activities of the Jamaat and
played a central role in popularizing the party in the difficult province of Sindh.
Jan Mohammad Abbasi has
been Jamaats key candidate in crucial national elections. Inspite of heavy
odds and tactics of highhandedness, he stood as the only challenging candidate in Larkana
against Mr Z.A.Bhutto in the 1977 elections, wherefrom Bhutto wanted to come unopposed.
As Ameer of
Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh and as Naib Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Maulana
Jan Mohammad Abbasi established various new institutions. He has good working knowledge of
Persian, Arabic, Pushto and English other than having full command over his mother
language Sindhi and Urdu, in which he makes valuable literary and political contribution.
