JI
vows to continue quake relief work
Karachi,
Dec 13: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan
Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that the Jamaat-e-Islami and its
relief organization Al-Khidmat would continue relief work till the
complete rehabilitation of the survivors of earthquake in the
devastated areas of the NWFP and Azad Kashmir.
In
the second phase of the relief work, we are providing
semi-permanent shelters to quake victims and construction of
mosques, schools, and Madrassas, was being carried out on a
priority basis.
He
was talking to mediamen at the Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq while
dispatching the 35th consignment of relief goods to the quake-hit
areas from the JI, Karachi, office on Tuesday.
He
maintained that people still needed food, clothing, and medicines
but that the JI was now focusing on provision of tin-sheets for
construction of semi-permanent shelters for the affected families
to save them from the intense cold weather.
He
told journalists that the JI had dispatched 50,000 tin sheets from
Karachi to help them build temporary homes, but still millions of
such sheets were needed. The JI had approached philanthropists,
and added that the JI’s engineers, technicians, and experts were
also assisting people in those areas.
The
JI, he said, had provided all tools which could help them
construct their homes and also agricultural supplies to earn their
livelihood.
He
said JI had also provided wood-cutting saws to people and they
were obtaining wood by cutting trees for construction of their
homes while JI had also providing them seed, sheep, cows and
agricultural paraphernalia to earn their livelihood.
Replying
to a question, he said that the JI was in touch with Islamic
organizations around the world for help for the affected people.
The
JI’s top priority, he said, was psychological counseling for the
affected. Construction of mosques, Madrassas and schools could go
a long way help them overcome their miseries.
In
reply to a question, he said previously the government was
creating hurdles but now they were helping the organization and
its sister concerns.
The
JI, Karachi, Ameer, Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, MPA Nasrullah
Shaji, and other JI leaders were also present. |
