PIMA donates ambulance
for sunami-hit people to RCI
Lahore, Jan 17:
Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) has donated a
state-of-the-art fully equipped ambulance to Red Crescent Indonesia (RCI)
to ensure provision of timely healthcare to Tsunami-hit people of Aceh,
says a message received from Jakarta.
Head of PIMA relief mission Dr. Mohammad Iqbal handed over keys of
Ambulance to RCI delegate in a press conference held at Jakarta on
Monday.
The PIMA relief mission is comprised of Dr. Anas Farhan Qazi son of
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Dr. Iqbal Kundi, Dr.
Nadeem, IT expert Imtiaz Ahmed and host of other senior physicians and
para-medical staff.
The PIMA mission arrived in Aceh a week ago for providing healthcare to
Tsunami-hit Indonesians besides exploring possibilities of board-based
and long term medical relief operation in collaboration with host of
local NGOs.
During the on-going relief mission, PIMA delegation signed two separate
memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with RCI and KKIA (Indonesian
Humanitarian Association for Aceh) for long term relief operation in
Tsunami hit areas of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the message said, epidemics have been detected and the
destroyed medical infrastructure is slowly being rebuilt in Banda Aceh,
people are starting to die from diseases such as pneumonia, skin
infections and tetanus. In reply to a SOS message by PIMA relief in
Indonesia, loads of anti-tetanus vaccines is being dispatched to Aceh
from Pakistan. (#)
