Resolution on:
Restoration of Religion Column in Passport
Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan in its
meeting held January 7-9, 2005 unanimously passed a
resolution demanding the government torestore religion column in Passport. Complete text of the
resolution follows:
Central Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (Majlise Shoora)
expresses grave concern over government policy of benefiting
non Muslim minority Qadiyanis through abolishing religion
column in passports and preparing joint electoral lists for
eliminating the differentiation of Muslims and non Muslims.
In a resolution passed on the second day of the 3-day
meeting, the JI shoora expresses severe anger and grief over
such measures and reject them by terming them part of US
agenda and policies pursued by the military regime.
The resolution says that the Ummah has firm belief of the
finality of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and this belief is the
life and blood of all Muslims. Two large movements have been
launched on the issue and it was because of those movements
that the national assembly in 1974 passed the amendment
declaring Qadiyanis non Muslim. Separate mention of
Qadiyanis’ religion in all official documents including
passports is there because of the constitutional requirement
and is a matter of faith.
The sole aim of abolishing religion column from passport is
to give them an upper hand in Pakistan and to provide them
an inroad to enter Holy Kaaba and Masjid Nabvi. The shoora
noted with concern that the decision of Pakistani government
has hurt religious feelings of entire Ummah and amounts to
attacking the belief of finality of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
The meeting demands from government of Pakistan to stop
playing with the religious sentiments of Muslim Ummah and
religion column in passport be immediately restored.
Similarly, the words Islamic Republic of Pakistan must also
be written on the passports. The shoora also demands that
joint electoral lists should be stopped and separate lists
be prepared for the minorities.
