Need
of tin sheets instead of tents to the victims underscored
Lahore,
Nov. 30: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain
Ahmad Wednesday visited the central relief camp of Al-Khidmat
Foundation to see the relief supply activities for earthquake
victims. Qazi Hussain Ahmad paid tributes to the party workers and
volunteers working at the camp. District Ameer JI Rawalpindi Dr.
Mohammad Kamal and camp incharge Dr. Hafeezur Rehman were also
with him.
Addressing the
workers on the occasion, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said thousands of
lives are in danger by snowfall and severe cold following the
earthquake. He said little children and aged people are under
particular threat of terminal diseases due to extreme cold
weather. He expressed sorrow that so far government failed in
doing what it should have done to provide protection to these
people. He said over ten thousand JI workers from all over the
country are participating in massive relief activities. JI has
sent over two thousand trucks loaded with relief goods to the
affected areas which included twenty five thousand tents, sixteen
thousand tarpaulins, one hundred and twenty five thousand blankets
and quilts. He said at present 23 medical centers and five field
hospitals are functional in the affected areas where about
nineteen hundred local and foreign doctors and twenty two hundred
paramedical workers have served to provide medical aid to the
victims. He said over two hundred lady doctors and doctors are
still working there.
Qazi
Hussain Ahmad said JI's relief operations will continue till the
complete rehabilitation of the affected people and the workers
will brave the severe weather conditions with courage and spirit.
Qazi reiterated appeal to Pakistanis, both inland and overseas, to
donate whole heartedly for providing corrugated iron sheets and
warm clothes to the affected people on emergency basis because
temperature in those areas has already fallen below freezing point
due to snowfall and people cannot survive in tents under that kind
of weather. Qazi Hussain Ahmad also urged upon the government,
political parties and political/religious organizations to provide
corrugated iron sheets instead of tents to the affected people
because these people are capable enough to build their houses on
their own to suit the local weather conditions.
