replying reporters' queries in zuhr prayer break during the
meeting of party's central working council which held here Sunday
at the party headquarters. Qazi Hussain Ahmad presided over the
meeting while his deputies and other members of the working

Sunday. |
In reply to a
question Qazi Hussain Ahmad pointed out that PML(Q) chief Ch
Shujaat Hussain and secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Syed called
on him the other day to discuss the Women Protection Bill. "I have
categorically stated during the meeting with the PML leaders that
the country is in need of real change aimed at abolishing the
vices like women marriage to Quran, Vinni and other
orthodox practices in the name of traditions which are not plugged
against in the Women Protection Bill at present".
The real
problem facing the country, Qazi said, is that of military
dictatorship and unless the country is rid of army generals' rule
the system could not be overhauled. "Opposition should not be made
to play with trivialities". He said handful westernized women on
the payroll of foreign NGOs are protesting against the Hudood
laws only. They are not concerned with the plight of Pakistani
women who are facing great hardships due to feudal society in
interiors of our provinces. We can only protect the honor of
Pakistani women and men lot alike by cementing our family system
which the Western societies seek to disintegrate.
To a question
about Balochistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the MMA leadership has
apprised the JUI that it is high time to quit the provincial
assembly of Balochistan at this time. "If General Pervez Musharraf
tried to use the present assemblies as Electoral College for his
re-election the MMA along with other opposition parties summarily
quit the assemblies. We have taken lead in this regard and shall
be ahead of other contemporaries as and when opposition decides to
tender mass resignations.
He said
Musharraf will quit the presidency only after large-scale mass
movement therefore the opposition should not inadvertently side
with the government by showing discord on Hudood laws. He
said the nation do not pin positive hope on president's visit to
the
USA. "Every Pakistani ruler's visit to
Washington
brought new trouble for the nation," he remarked.
- addresses JI Working Council
Earlier,
addressing the central working council Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the
military can not control the turmoil situation brewed after
killing of Akbar Bugti in an army operation in Balochistan.
However, he said, if the religious quarters quit the provincial
assembly and contact their constituencies in the larger interest
of
Pakistan the situation can come under control.
He said the
army-tribal peace accord in the
North
Waziristan speaks of the failure of use of military might in the
area. The army badly failed to crush the resistance of patriotic
tribal despite ruthless use of force. He said New Delhi concerns
about the situation are unwarranted and tantamount to meddling in
the internal affairs of Pakistan. He took strong exception to
Pop's remarks about Islam and Jihad and termed it manifestation of
biased western polices towards Islam. He said the provocative
statements given by the head of Roman Catholic leader does not
behoove to his stature.
- blasts police torture on Newsmen
In another
statement, Qazi Hussain Ahmad condemned the police torture on the
ARY One world's Senior Reporter Wadoud Mushtaq and A TV's
correspondent Nazir Awan while they were performing professional
duties. He demanded stern disciplinary action against the
policemen involved in the thrashing of journalists so that no
other official dare to take the law in his hands in future. |
