LAHORE, Dec 07: Naib ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan
Senator Prof. Khurshid Ahmad has expressed his deep concern over the
extent of interference of foreign powers in the domestic politics of
Pakistan.
In a statement to press the JI leader said that the Washington has
been trying to influence decision-making, election processes and the
choice of leadership in the country. Formerly it was through covert
means and now it is being done boldly and openly as if Paksitan is
their colony. Macro-influencing has now moved down to
micro-management. Europen Countries and others have also jumped into
the fray. This is an index of the dangerous erosion of sovereignty
and independence of Pakistan that has taken place only under the
present leadership of Parvez Musharraf.
Prof. Khurshid Ahmad has criticized the statement of the British
High Commissioner openly declaring that "Instead of demanding the
restoration of judiciary we are asking for independent judiciary for
the future." Is the honourable diplomate suggesting that arbitrary
and illegal dismissal of the Judges of the Supreme Court and High
Courts is not a violation of indepencence of the Judiciary and can
there be even an iota of independence of the judicairy if the sword
of dismissal by the exectives hangs on the heads of the Judges? Can
he advocate a similar regime of independence for the United Kingdom?
The imposition of Emegency and the Provisional Constitution Order,
suspending the original Constittion was primarily an attack on the
judiciary and resulted in the dismissal of 60% of higher judiciary.
Without the revocation of the impugned orders and restortion of the
Constitution and the Higher Judiciary there is no hope for democracy
or free and fair elections. All these are inextricably linked.
The JI leader has also condemned the inspired hue and cry in the US
and European Media about the safety of our nuclear assets. He has
asserted that Pakistan is an independent sovereign state and the
people of Pakistan cannot tolerate these imperialistic interferences
in their affairs as also pressues and threats. They have to rise as
an honourable nation to protect their freedom and sovereignty and
get rid of the Mir Jaffers and Mir Sadiqs who are playing in the
hands of the foreign powers or are being groomed by them. "This is a
defining moment and the people, media and civil society should
safeguard the coutry's sovereignty and seek for the restoration of
the Constitution and the Higher Judiciary as they were on 2nd
November, 2007", he concluded.
