LAHORE, Nov 5: Hundreds of
Jamaat-e-Islami activists staged a protest demonstration outside
Mansoorah on Monday evening against imposition of emergency rule,
clipping independence of judiciary, putting ban on electronic media
and police torture on lawyers and journalists.
The slogan chanting and banner waving activists demanded Gen
Musharraf's trial under article 6 of the constitution for subverting
the constitution to prevent such adventurism in future and vowed to
continue their struggle against the military
dictatorship.
The demonstrators were addressed by MMA Punjab ameer Liaqat Baloch,
Dr Farid Paracha, Asadullah Bhutto, Maulana Abdul Maalik, Hafiz
Salman Butt, Zikurllah Mujahid and others.
Liaqat Baloch said Gen Musharraf was the only dictator who subverted
the constitution twice to please Washington and implement American
agenda by extending his illegal rule. He said the act amounted to
treason and he should be tried accordingly and hanged as per the
constitutional requirement.
Baloch said the emergency rule was imposed on the behest of America
and colonial powers to implement their agenda in the region.
Other leaders said people did not acknowledge the judges taking oath
under PCO and paid tributes to those who refused such oaths. They
said the nation considered the military junta as national criminals
and MMA and other opposition parties would
soon rid the nation of the dictators and US agents.
They said the protest movement would continue and would be stepped
up after consultations with other opposition parties so that the
people could be liberated from the clutches of western agents
usurping their fundamental rights. (#)
