Qazi lauds courage, sacrifice of Shamsuddin Abbasi

LAHORE, Nov 13: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has condemned the manhandling and torture on detained JI Larkana ameer Shamsuddin Abbasi at the hands of staff of Larkana jail.

In his letter to the detained JI leader and his family on Tuesday, Qazi Hussain Ahmad no amount of torture and arrests could hamper the march of JI people towards restoring complete democracy in the country. He paid tributes to Shamsuddin Abbasi who is serving three months detention under 16 MPO along with JI Qambar Shahdadkot ameer Imdad Ali Qadri and sixteen other workers for staging demonstrations against Emergency rule, and said these were the first to offer protest and arrests against the military dictatorship after returning from the JI members convention at Shamki Bhattian. Qazi said those leaders and workers have set an example of courage, bravery and commitment.

In his letter, Qazi Hussain Ahmad recalled that Shamsuddin Abbasi's father, Maulana Jan Mohammad Abbasi (former Sindh ameer and naib ameer JI Pakistan) has always led his entire life in struggling against the dictatorship and restoration of democracy, in which he suffered detention and other problems without complain. Qazi praised Shamsuddin for carrying forward the traditions of his father, and prayed that Allah Almighty would grant him more courage and determination.

Qazi expressed hopes that sacrifices and suffereings of JI leaders and workers would bear fruit very soon to end military dictatorship, restore fundamental rights and civil liberties, liberate judiciary from clutches of dictatorship and putting country back on the track of democracy.
