All Opp parties must jointly decide to boycott polls: Qazi

LAHORE, Nov 20: MMA president and Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has warned that conspiracies are being hatched to put the nation under fresh slavery by holding fake elections through fake election commission and under martial law.

He urged upon all the opposition parties to gather on one platform and decide to boycott such elections, adding that no opposition party should individually decide to boycott or participate in the elections.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad was addressing a demonstration outside Mansoorah on Tuesday held by Jamat-e-Islami (JI) women wing against the imposition of emergency, dismissal of supreme court judges and closure of TV channels.

Qazi said all opposition parties should keep in mind that the state of emergency is in fact a martial law and under these circumstances if opposition contested elections it would give justification to all the illegal measures taken under emergency. The need of the hour was to launch a movement against emergency and get rid of the martial law, dictatorship of generals and restore democracy so that a free and fair environment for holding the general elections could be provided. He said on the one hand elections schedule was given while on the other hand freedom of expression was banned, media and TV channels were shut down, political leaders were arrested and police was deployed at their gates, and independent judiciary was also destroyed.

He said elections under martial law and fake elections commission was actually a trap for the opposition parties and we want to boycott it from the APDM's platform, adding that we are waiting for the PPP to join in the decision. He said JI would not decide alone to boycott or contest the election.

Regarding manhandling of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Qazi said all the members of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) should tender unconditional and open apology from Imran Khan and run a campaign for his release. He also condemned the indecent behaviour of police against the PTI women protestors saying such maltreatment was not even done by Israeli army against the Palestinian women. He expressed sorrow that administrations in the country had given up all considerations to the morality, civilization and decency. He said honor and respect of women in the society was being destroyed by the rulers and their administrations. He said MMA would restore the honor and respect of women. He said such practices were the result of imposing western civilization in the country under which women were deprived of inheritance, education and respect, and made a source for cheap advertisements only.
