JI condemns polls under martial law, stifling media, crackdown on newsmen

LAHORE, Nov 21: Jamaat-e-Islami executive council (Majlis-e-Amla) has expressed condemnation of holding elections under martial law, interim governments and closure of private news channels by Gen Musharraf.

In a resolution passed by JI Amla which met on Wednesday chaired by Qazi Hussain Ahmad said Musharraf regime has already prepared results of the elections before announcing the election schedule. It said the declaration of election campaign has been made to cover up the prepared election results. The Amla stressed that all opposition parties should take a unanimous decision to boycott the polls under the prevailing crucial circumstances.

The resolution also condemned the closure of private TV channels like Geo and ARY, and worst police torture on journalists in Karachi. The resolution paid tributes to the chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhri and those judges who refused to take oath under PCO despite government pressure and incentives.

The resolution also condemned the military operation in Swat, severe bombardment on civilians by Gunship helicopters and massacre of civilians, and said deployment of one division army with heavy weaponry on the US behest is in fact a declaration of war against their own nation which every Pakistani views with serious concerns and disgust.
