JI Shoora resolution stresses five conditions for polls

LAHORE, Nov 28: Jamaat-e-Islami Shoora has stressed that without fulfilling five basic prerequisites the forthcoming elections will be mere fraud and lead to destroy the entire political process in the country.
In a resolution passed by JI shoora in its meeting chaired by Qazi Hussain Ahmad, the party warned that if government did not fulfill the five prerequisites than JI will boycott the elections along with the APDM and launch forceful movement against the MUsharraf led military regime.

The resolution said JI considered that free and fair elections are the only way to pull the country out of the present crises.

Presenting the five prerequisites, the resolution said that first is to lift emergency and martial law by completely restoring the constitution of Pakistan and abolishing the PCO. Second, is to restore the superior and higher judiciary on the state at which it was before November 3 and reinstating the chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhri and others who were sacked following refusal to take oath under PCO. Third, is to allow complete freedom to media, and revoking all the measures which suppressed media and press through stringent laws, besides releasing all the arrested journalists, lawyers, political leaders and workers. Fourth is to establish an autonomous and independent Election Commission on which all political contestants have faith and which could hold transparent elections impartially. Fifth, is to create free election environment and equal opportunities to all the contestants so that nation could elect its representatives with freedom, and an impartial caretaker set up is essential for this requirement. Without reigning in the administrations, secret agencies and police the free and fair elections could not be held.

The resolution warned that JI would boycott the elections along with APDM if the government persisted on its stubbornness and rejected these prerequisites. The Shoora appealed to all political parties, civil society representatives and people to feel the delicacy of the circumstances and realize the dirty game played by Gen Musharraf and Washington to subjugate the nation for a longer time through controlled elections.

The shoora lamented that Gen Musharraf literally took the nation hostage on gun point for the last eight years and destroyed every state institution just to prolong his illegal rule and plunder. Shoora also clarified that the slogan of national interests which Gen Musharraf has been raising is nothing but what the constitution of Pakistan requires and which the nation has evolved after consensus as a joint treaty of all the federating units. Therefore, no other 'national interests' could be allowed which conflicted the constitution of Pakistan.

In another resolution, the Shoora demanded withdrawal of army from Swat, tribal areas and Balochistan, terming the military operation against the own nation as a conspiracy against national security, sovereignty and integrity to fulfill the American agenda in the country. It expressed sorrow that thousands of innocent men, women and children were killed by their own army in those areas and Jamia Hafsa, while thousands are now migrating from Swat due to curfew and hunger.

Shoora said it is unfortunate that the army which the poor nation has raised by cutting down its food and luxuries was being used to keep the nation a slave of Washington. The Shoora said JI invited entire nation specially the political parties and civil society organizations to ponder over the situation condemned the policy of military operation against civilians besides expressing complete solidarity with the people of Swat and to help them by donating food and other supplies.
