Musharraf put the very existence of country at stake: Qazi

LAHORE, Jan 13: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that Gen Musharraf's pro-American policies have pushed the country into the worst crises of its history where its very existence is at stake.

Addressing a meeting of party central executive committee at Mansoorah on Sunday, Qazi said the fire which Gen Musharraf had set up in tribal areas to carry out American agenda is now engulfing entire country in shape of terrorism, lawlessness, price hike and deep sense of insecurity among citizens. He said terrorists are roaming freely striking government agencies at will while there is no authority to protect the helpless citizens who are running from pillar to post to get one loaf of bread for their survival. He said it seems that Gen Musharraf is equal party to the American and Indian conspiracy to declare Pakistan a failed state in order to take control of its nuclear assets. He said a number of surveys have indicated that more than ninety per cent people hated Gen Musharraf and his policies but he was still clinging on to power to complete the foreign agenda under the pretext that majority of people supported him and that he would quit when people would want him to go.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad warned that under the present circumstances the upcoming elections are a beautiful trap for the political parties and they must boycott it to join the struggle to remove Musharraf and restore independent judiciary and constitution. He said all the political parties participating in the elections would emerge empty handed while it would only provide Gen Musharraf with the legal and constitutional eligibility for the coming five years. Qazi said the irony of the situation is that constitution, state institutions and judiciary are being destroyed but the political parties who claim to be champions of democracy are still adamant to contest the elections in the name of "not leaving the field empty for dictators" despite the fact that entire field of elections has been set up by the dictators themselves. Qazi said the only option to pull the country out of the present crises is that all the political parties must boycott the fraud elections and join hands for the movement to remove Musharraf and restore judiciary so that a real democratic set up could be installed which would hold free and fair elections in the country.
