LAHORE, Jan 16: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA
president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has warned that neither national
government could prove beneficial nor elections could be held free
and fair in the presence of Gen Musharraf.
We want genuine, free and fair elections in the country so that
people could elect their real representatives, he said while talking
to newsmen on Wednesday after the meeting of JI Shoora which is
being held under his chairmanship. Qazi welcomed the statement of
COAS that army has nothing to do with politics. However, Qazi
criticized Gen Musharraf for issuing a warning that next government
would not be allowed to change the existing policies and that all
powers would be in the hands of troika comprising president, COAS
and prime minister. Qazi said this statement shows that next
elections are fraud and coming government will have no powers. Qazi
said there is no use of going into such assemblies which are decided
before elections and that free and fair elections are impossible in
the presence of Gen Musahrraf.
Qazi praised the statement of COAS that army has no role in politics
and army officers will not be allowed to do business nor having
contacts with business firms.
Qazi said we insist upon the opposition parties not to be taken in
any more by the election fraud. He said the best way to do
opposition politics is that fraud elections should be boycotted and
get united to launch a movement to remove Gen Musharraf. He said
Musharraf removed 60 judges of the judiciary and now free elections
could not be held without independent judiciary. To a question about
Gen Musharraf's statement that those disrupting elections will be
shot to death, Qazi said Gen Musharraf is himself disrupting the
elections, and people are being killed daily with bombs so that
elections environment could not be established. He said
responsibility of devastated law and order is on Gen Musharraf's
shoulders who brought US war into Pakistani territory.
