JI will make electoral boycott fruitful: Qazi

LAHORE, Jan 17: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has stressed that there is no justification of participating in any elections without having independent judiciary and in the presence of Gen Musharraf. Jamaat-e-Islami will make fruitful the mass movement of electoral boycott and soon all the opposition parties will have to get united, he said while delivering concluding address at the closing session of the meeting of JI Shoora here at Mansoorah on Thursday.

Qazi praised the recent statements of COAS and said he (COAS) began moving in right direction by asking the army to dissociate itself from politics, which is quite different from the Musharraf group. Qazi said COAS determined the correct direction for the armed forces under the circumstances when our twenty five thousand troops are helpless in Swat while Balochistan is also in serious dangers despite military operation.

Qazi said except a small ruling group the entire opposition has serious reservations against the existing judiciary, caretaker governments and chief election commissioner. He said according to traditions of democratic societies the chief election commissioner should have resigned voluntarily after having so strong a criticism and doubts upon his personality, but in Pakistan a class of people cling to the public offices like leeches. He urged upon the opposition parties to chalk out collective strategy according to their principled stance. He expressed strong hopes of forging unity among whole opposition since the expectations which some people had from the rulers are now dying down.

Qazi urged upon the JI office bearers and Shoora members to convert the principled stance of election boycott into a forceful mass movement with the help of JI's organizational set up. He said the country will usher into a new democratic era by taking a firm position on principled stance and breaking the shackles of doctrine of necessity and ground realities.
