LAHORE, Jan 18: Jamaat-e-Islami Shoora has expressed
serious concerns over "Destruction of Pakistan" consultations being
made in Washington and held that Musharraf regime is solely
responsible for pushing the country to the edge of devastation.
In a resolution passed by JI Shoora which met at Mansoorah with Qazi
Hussain Ahmad in the chair, the JI moot strongly rejected the
American agenda for Pakistan and expressed firm resolve that the
party and the entire nation will counter every challenge and threat
to national security and integrity like an iron wall.
The resolution stressed that Gen Musharraf's dictatorship has badly
failed in protecting national interests and all opinion polls are
almost unanimously showing that over 80 per cent people of Pakistan
want to get rid of him immediately. It said that protection of
Pakistan's security, sovereignty and independence depends upon
removal of Gen Musharraf, and added that only a genuine
representative government can counter the present crises which
should be chosen through free and fair elections by autonomous
election commission and independent judiciary, and establish
respectable relations with all countries of the world.
The resolution particularly condemned American agenda against Muslim
world particularly Pakistan, and expressed concerns that Washington
has been stepping up its anti Muslim policies and measures over the
past many years. Soon after Feb 2007 when Washington took command of
the Nato forces in Afghanistan, its officials has been particularly
issuing arrogant and provocative statements against Pakistan while
Gen Musharraf has been adopting one retreat after the other to paint
a helpless figure of Islamabad. The Shoora termed Gen Musharraf's
becoming a mere tool in Washington's hand a serious insult to
Pakistan and a national tragedy. It said it is only because of the
cowardice of Gen Musharraf and his regime that Washington took
unbearable liberty to treat Pakistan like a slave despite calling it
a front line ally in the so called war against terror. While on the
other hand Islamabad also treats itself like a colony of Washington
and silently tolerating American threats which has become a daily
affair.
The Shoora said it considered American threats to Pakistan an attack
on its independence and sovereignty. It also expressed serious
condemnation that American presidential candidates have been issuing
threats to Pakistan as part of their election campaign and it shows
that both Republicans and Democrats have at least on thing in common
which is Pakistan-enmity and the desire to destroy or control
Pakistani nuclear assets.
In another resolution, the JI Shoora condemned Gen Musharraf for
making Pakistan army fight and kill its own citizens for the sake of
American interests. It said the so called US war against terror is
in fact a war against Islam and Muslims which Bush had also called
as crusade but Gen Musharraf brought this war inside Pakistani
territories to complete American agenda in Pakistan. The war was
started by launching military operation in Waziristan agency which
later spread to other tribal areas causing devastating effects in
entire region and killing hundreds of innocent civilians, women and
children. Now settled areas of Pakistan particularly Swat has become
a battle field for the last many months, badly persecuting the poor
civilians who have been facing death on one hand and scarcity of
food and medicine in shape of curfew on the other, which made it
impossible for funeral and burial of dead bodies for many days.
Agriculture and business have come to a halt causing starvation to
the poor people, while government and private employees have been
deprived from their salaries for months because of the closure of
banks and offices. Payment of utility bills has become impossible
under these circumstances but the government departments are
callously disconnecting power connections under this pretext to
further victimize the poor. Children and youth are deprived of
education as educational institutions have been closed for months.
Civil administration has become crippled while military
administration has not been accepting the reconciliation efforts of
the jirgas comprising local elders and tribal leaders but in fact
creating more hurdles in bringing about any negotiated solution to
the crisis. The resolution warned that refusal to Jirga solutions
and using blind military force against civilians is devastating for
both people and the armed forces. Presence of Army in tribal and
settled areas of NWFP is no solution to any problems but in fact
creating more problems. It demanded immediate withdrawal of army
from NWFP and solving the problem through the Jirga of local and
tribal elders.
The resolution appealed to entire nation particularly the political
and religious parties to condemn this devastating policy and play
their due role in activating the people for stopping this cruel
policy of the military regime.
