JI wants constitutional rule, not share in illegal power: Qazi

LAHORE, Jan 26: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that the party is firm on elections boycott because we want supremacy of constitution and people's will instead of sharing the illegal power structure. Gen Musharraf is holding rigged elections under US roadmap and the resulting parliament will not be representative of the people, he said while addressing the meeting of central executive committee of National Labor Federation (NLF) here on Saturday.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad asked those parties threatening to launch mass agitation in case the elections were rigged to boycott the elections and join APDM's struggle to remove Musharraf and restore constitution and democracy. Qazi warned that continuation of illegal dictatorial rule of Gen Musharraf is increasing dangers to country's security and internal problems, making the lives hell for the common man. He said Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by the forces trying to prolong the dictatorship of Gen Musharraf, and added that situation in tribal areas, Balochistan and Swat was deteriorated by secret agencies to implement Musharraf's agenda.

Qazi Hussain expressed sorrow that previous rulers boasting economic development have actually extinguished the stoves of the common man because the fruits of development were transferred to only a few billionaire families instead of the poor population. He said price hike, unemployment and lawlessness are multiplying the problems of the poor and working classes, and appealed to the working class people to join hands with Jamaat Islami and support APDM's boycott movement to get rid of Gen Musharraf and the economic hardships facing them.

He said the previous rulers actually robbed the poor working classes of their rights by privatization, resulting unemployment and IRO 2002 which quashed the kitchen fires in the homes of the millions of poor families. He said JI has always raised voice against economic and social injustices, and will continue this policy despite the state repression.

The meeting was also addressed by NLF president Rafiq Ahmad Khan, provincial presidents Abdul Wahab Niazi, Rana Mehmood Ali, Habibullah Shah and Shahid Ayub, while secretary general Ijaz Shaikh, organizing secretary Zulfiqar Sarmadi and other office bearers also participated. They highlighted the problems of the poor and working classes and presented their reports on the issue. They drew attention towards the black law named IRO 2002 which posed serious economic dangers to the workers since it allowed industrialists and capitalists powers to sack workers without following labor laws and legal procedure. Qazi assured them that JI will utilize all powers to solve the problems faced by the working classes.
