Qazi appeals for relief supplies to tribal refugees

LAHORE, Jan 26: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has appealed to the nation and the philanthropists to donate whole heartedly for providing relief to thousands of people displaced by the fresh military operation in tribal areas.

In a statement on Saturday, Qazi said tens of thousands of people from tribal areas of NWFP have been forced to leave their homes in harsh winter season and take refuge under open sky in Kohat, Bannu, Tank, Peshawar and DI Khan areas, needing food, medicines, bedding, blankets, warm clothes and tents on emergent basis. He said JI NWFP has set up relief camps and also providing relief supplies but the requirements are much higher than supplies, and the nation should come forward to help their brothers in trouble at this crucial time.

He condemned the military operation in which Tanks, Gunship helicopters and artillery is being used against own countrymen. He said the massive fire by Pakistan army has caused heavy damage to civilian population instead of so called terrorists, and over seventy thousand people were taking refuge in different areas of lower NWFP. He said these refugees included children, women and elderly people needing immediate food and medicine supplies.
