LAHORE, June 17: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Information
Ameerul Azim Tuesday demanded of the government to publish names of
1800 "beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)"
so that the nation could recover each penny from the businessmen
politicians in the power.
Ameerul Azim was commenting on Governor State Bank Shamshad Akhtar
remarks in front of National Assembly's standing committee the other
day.
He pointed out that only two hundred amongst the 6000 defaulters
could not reap the fruit of the NRO otherwise rest of all stand
clear and clean from all liabilities under the NRO.
According to Shamshad Akhtar, he pointed out, use of political
position and pressure for seeking loans from the bank has become
order of the day. "No bank had ever dared to take action against any
businessman politician in the country."
The JI media wizard deplored that on the one hand nation is indebted
to world power to meet the extravagant and luxurious life style of
such politicians who on the other hand are eating up with great ease
the public money through lofty bank loans by misusing their
political position and authority.
Ameerul Azim held such clique responsible for the hike in prices of
basic commodities and of the petroleum products which is making the
life of common man miserable.
The looters of national money, he said, have now joined hands and
creating hurdles in the way of restoration of deposed judges because
they fear from the independent and powerful judiciary which can take
them to task for their plunder.
The Jamaat spokesman urged the need for a free and fair judiciary
because free judiciary can only serve as a safeguard against the
corruption.(#)
