LAHORE, Jun 19: Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Syed Munawar Hasan has held that Gen Pervez Musharraf was solely responsible for the economic deterioration of the country since he had been the sole authority of all the decision making in all national matters during the last eight years.

Responding to a speech of Gen Musharraf made before senior journalists in Rawalpindi the other day in which he had held the PML-Q government as responsible for all the economic problems, Munawar Hasan said Musharraf could not absolve himself by holding the previous government responsible since he had brought Shaukat Aziz and his team into power, and practically supervised their government.

Munawar demanded impartial audit of billions of dollars of foreign aid deposited in Gen Musharraf's account as earthquake relief and billions of dollars he received from Washington for handing over Pakistanis and foreigners wanted in war against terror (which Musharraf has also admitted in his book). Besides, he said, billions of dollars spent on Gen Musharraf's foreign visits should also be audited. He said Gen Musharraf put at stake country's security, solidarity, independence and honor by throwing the country into Washington's slavery after 9-11.

He said Musharraf is the most hated person in Pakistan since he caused huge losses to the country by fighting American war with national resources. All foreign and local investors are fleeing from the country due to civil war like situation, while the country suffers from a number of crises including power, Atta and fuel shortages. He said it was the reason people voted out Musharraf's stooges in Feb 18 elections and now whole nation is demanding him to resign.
