LAHORE, May 24: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA
president Qazi Hussain
Ahmad has said restoration of judiciary of Nov 2, 07, was being
foiled
in the name of constitutional package, adding that PPP was ridding
chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry by limiting the tenure of
this office to 3 years.
In a statement on Saturday, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said first Asif
Zardari violated the agreement with Nawaz Sharif, in which they had
agreed to restore judges through resolution, by announcing to
restore
judiciary through constitutional package. But this announcement was
again violated in shape of limiting the tenure of chief justice to 3
years, he said, adding that now lawyers were being invited to
negotiate on this package which amounted to linger on the issue and
make it complicated.
Qazi said on one hand Asif Zardari declared he did not consider Gen
Musharraf constitutional president, but on the other hand he was
trying to provide constitutional cover to Gen Musharraf's measures
of
Nov. 3, 07, and PPP ministers had been issuing statements that they
were ready to work with Gen Musharraf and declaring his role as
necessary in the present set up.
Qazi said on one hand Article 6 of constitution was being amended to
include in it the judges who indemnify the unconstitutional steps
but
on the other hand PPP leadership was ready to accept and work with
the
dictator who abrogated the constitution twice. And this
constitutional
package would be sent to the same dictator sitting in the president
House for ratification, he added.
Qazi advised the PPP leadership that instead of making mockery of
the
public mandate it should impeach the president first to rid the
nation
of his dictatorial rule.
