LAHORE, May 24: Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded that at
least four per cent of the GDP in the budget should be allocated for
Education sector, new educational complexes and facilities should be
provided in under developed and far off areas, salaries and perks of
the teachers should be raised, scholarships should be given to poor
and deserving students and educational fees should be reduced.
These demands were made in the resolution passed by JI shoora which
met at Mansoorah with Qazi Hussain Ahmad in the chair. The
resolution expressed concerns over increasing foreign pressure on
the education system, falling rate of literacy and educational
standards and facilities, and observed that Gen Musharraf unleashed
a reign of devastation in the education system by enforcing American
agenda of enlightened moderation through removing ideological
concepts from the syllabi and replacing them with foreign concepts
of immorality and waywardness.
It also demanded that all material comprising Quran and Sunnah which
was removed from the syllabi on American dictation must be restored
while recent insertions should be excluded to align the education
system with our ideology. Official status given to foreign NGOs in
education ministry should be abolished and curriculum wing of the
ministry should be run under the Education Act of 1976. Anti
curricular activities in the universities like banning of book fairs
should be stopped while activities like music concerts and music
classes should be banned. The code of conduct of the students unions
should be formulated with consultation of educationists, teachers
and students, and Urdu should be made and enforced as official
language.
