1st to 3rd Cent. Manuscripts of Quran

Question:

Assalam-u-Alaikum,
JazakAllah for the useful information, news and views on this web site.

In his speech titled "Seerah-e-Muhammadi Ka Paigham ( Lahore ) Part1, Moulana Moududi Sahab mentions the research done at Munich University, Germany, on the different manuscripts of Quran dating from 1st Century to 20th Century. He also mentioned that the research institution was demolished during World War but the report is available. It will be immensely helpful to study and circulate the report. Can you provide references and pointers in getting the report ? Appreciate for any assistance.

Answer:

Dear brother, Assalam-o-Alaikum

Let first the statement be corrected. The manuscripts referred to were for the period between the 1st Century to 13th Century Hijra. The word 20th is wrong.

The findings of research were reported close to World War when the institute got destroyed in bombing. We now don't know whether Sayyed Maududi possessed the copy of the said report or he was relying on some notes taken in his young age around the first World War.

We however, request through this message, anyone who is in contact, if he/she knows specifically about the report. It will be a great service if a copy is traced and provided for making it public.

Wassalam,
