The feudal & capitalist ruling elite has turned the country into a colony of IMF: Ameerul Azeem
Says a major public movement is needed against those who usurp rights of the people

LAHORE, July 20: Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami, Ameerul Azeem has said that in the past 78 years, the nation has never experienced a truly democratic government.
Ameerul Azeem expressed these views while addressing participants at the central training session at Mansoorah, which saw large participation from workers of Bhakkar, Mianwali, and Khushab.
While independence was gained from the British, the group nurtured by the British still keeps the people of Pakistan in bondage, he said, adding the country has not been allowed to function according to its constitution and laws.
He further said the basic rights of the people have been usurped, and they have been reduced to struggling for basic necessities like food. Inflation, unemployment, corruption, and mismanagement have created an atmosphere of deep despair and hopelessness, he said and added the rulers make empty claims about improving the economy, deceiving the public. The economy, propped up by IMF loans, could collapse at any moment, he warned.
Ameerul Azeem said that instead of cutting down on their own extravagance and privileges, the rulers continue to burden the public with taxes. He said electricity, fuel, and gas prices are the highest in the region. It has become nearly impossible for the common person to pay electricity bills, and many are now being forced to request disconnection of their meters, he said. He added that despite a drop in global oil prices, the government has increased the prices of diesel and petrol. When oil prices rise, inflation multiplies rapidly, he explained.
Ameerul Azeem remarked, “The lion has gone mad; sometimes it eats flour, and sometimes sugar,” indicating the irrationality of the current policies. The rulers are looting the people with both hands. First, they exported sugar to create a shortage in the country, and now they are importing it for profit. He warned that if the rulers do not change their ways, the people will not tolerate them for much longer.
