JI Emir Contacts PM Shehbaz, Assures Full Support in Flood Relief

Lahore, August 16 — Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman telephoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday to express deep sorrow over the human and material losses caused by the devastating floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He assured the Prime Minister that Jamaat-e-Islami and Alkhidmat Foundation volunteers are actively engaged in relief operations and stand ready to extend full cooperation to federal and provincial authorities.
Rehman stressed that in the face of such calamities, the federal government should rise above political differences and extend maximum support to the provinces. “This is a time for joint efforts. Our workers have already begun relief activities and we will continue to stand by the government and the people in this testing hour,” he told the Prime Minister.
PM Shehbaz Sharif informed Hafiz Naeem that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has already dispatched over 500 tons of relief goods to the affected areas. He appreciated JI role and assured that the government is fully committed to rehabilitation efforts. Earlier, the JI Emir Hafiz had also contacted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, assuring him of JI’s full cooperation.
Meanwhile, addressing participants of the central training camp at Mansoorah, Rehman said that Pakistan is plagued by instability, corruption, and exploitative politics. “Politics has become hostage to deceit, abuse, and violent rhetoric, dividing the nation along ethnic and sectarian lines. JI seeks to bring politics under the guidance of faith,” he stated.
Rehman expressed regret that politicians criticize the establishment while in opposition but resort to flattery when in power. He lamented the inefficiency of the judicial system, pointing out that millions of cases remain pending, with judges reading out pre-drafted judgments. “The 26th constitutional amendment crippled the judiciary, and the 27th will cause further destruction. If the Panchayat system is given legal recognition, 80 percent of public disputes could be resolved locally,” he argued.
The JI leader further called for an end to elitist education policies and the introduction of a uniform education system for all. He rejected ethnic nationalism as ignorance, branding it the most potent weapon of vested interests.
Reham strongly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their joint complicity in crimes against humanity in Gaza. He criticized Western double standards, saying: “Their democracy is subservient to wealth.“
He said Pakistan suffered enormously by joining America’s war as General Musharraf sold the nation at the cost of a single phone call.
He stressed that real change in Pakistan requires building public consensus. “A revolution that comes through bullets is always reversed by bullets. Only an awakened public opinion can bring about lasting transformation,” he said.
