Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman: No Poverty Relief from BISP; PPP and Ruling Parties Must Face Truth
Lahore, September 24: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has warned that the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has failed to reduce poverty, saying the PPP and other ruling parties must accept the truth.
In an X post, he referred to the latest World Bank report, which shows Pakistan’s poverty rate rising from 18.3 percent to 25.3 percent over the last three years — a seven percent increase. “The BISP, running for seventeen years under the pretext of poverty alleviation, is full of mismanagement and corruption,” said the JI chief.
He added that the billions spent annually on BISP could have been invested in IT education, which would have created real opportunities and reduced poverty instead of increasing it. “The people must be given their rights, not charity,” Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman stressed.
The World Bank report highlights that over 60 million Pakistanis now live below the poverty line, and previous development models have proven insufficient to address this growing crisis.
