Iranian, Afghan envoys call on JI Emir, offer condolences over Ameerul Azeem’s demise

ISLAMABAD, July 28: Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam and Afghanistan's Ambassador Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb separately called on Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman in Islamabad on Tuesday to offer condolences on the demise of JI Secretary General Ameerul Azeem.
The two envoys expressed profound sorrow over Azeem's passing, paid tribute to his religious, political and national services, and prayed for the elevation of his ranks in the hereafter. They also conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family, the JI leadership and workers. Director JI Foreign Affairs Asif Luqman Qazi was present during both meetings.
The meetings also featured detailed discussions on Pakistan-Iran and Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, the overall regional situation, peace and stability in Gaza, Lebanon and Afghanistan, challenges facing the Muslim world, economic cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
During his meeting with the Iranian ambassador, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said Pakistan and Iran were two brotherly Muslim countries that shared deep historical and religious ties. He stressed that both nations should rise above minor differences, strengthen bilateral cooperation, expand economic relations and play a joint role in promoting the unity of the Muslim Ummah. He called for an immediate, complete and permanent ceasefire in Iran, Gaza and Lebanon, saying lasting peace in the region would remain elusive as long as US aggression continued. He urged Muslim countries to adopt a unified stance, warning that internal divisions among Islamic nations only served the interests of hostile forces. Hafiz Naeem also reaffirmed JI’s solidarity with the Iranian government and people in the face of aggressive US and Israeli policies.
Reza Amiri Moghadam appreciated Pakistan's constructive role in promoting dialogue and reducing regional tensions. He said greater understanding and cooperation among Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye were essential for regional peace and security, adding that dialogue remained the only sustainable solution to regional disputes. He also underlined the importance of progress on key regional issues, including a ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza and Lebanon.
In his meeting with the Afghan ambassador, Rehman said the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan were bound by deep religious, historical and cultural ties, making strong bilateral relations indispensable for regional peace and prosperity. He said mutual trust, respect and sustained engagement could help resolve outstanding differences, while enhanced cooperation among Muslim countries was vital to addressing the challenges confronting the Ummah. He added that lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan were in the interest of both neighbouring countries as well as the wider region.
Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb emphasised the need to further strengthen brotherly relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, saying closer cooperation and positive engagement were fundamental to achieving sustainable peace and development in the region. He also appreciated Pakistan's support for the Afghan people over the years and expressed the desire to expand bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
