Islamabad: August 01–An agreement has been reached between Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan and the federal government on the key demands of the Haq Do Balochistan Long March.
As per the agreement, the government will take practical steps to legalize border trade from Chaman to Gwadar, issue a formal notification directing respectful conduct toward civilians at security check posts across Balochistan, and eliminate illegal trawling at Gwadar Port—ensuring that local fishermen are allowed to fish in accordance with the law.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Islamabad by Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah and Jamaat-e-Islami Vice President Liaqat Baloch, alongside provincial Jamaat-e-Islami chief and Long March leader Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
It was further announced that a committee comprising political parties from Balochistan and other stakeholders will be formed to address the remaining demands. The committee will draft recommendations and a roadmap to be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for implementation.
The agreement follows successful negotiations between the Jamaat-e-Islami and government committees, led respectively by Liaqat Baloch and Rana Sanaullah. During the press conference, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman announced that the sit-in outside Lahore Press Club would conclude on Saturday in light of the progress made.
It is worth noting that the Haq Do Balochistan Long March had departed from Quetta on July 25 and was camped in Lahore while awaiting negotiations. Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman had earlier warned that if the demands were not met, the marchers would proceed toward Islamabad.
Liaqat Baloch expressed hope that the people of Balochistan will be granted their rightful ownership of the province’s natural resources and called for serious efforts to address the issue of missing persons. He welcomed the progress made through negotiations and commended Minister of State Talal Chaudhry for his role in facilitating the agreement.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Rana Sanaullah stated that Balochistan is the heart of Pakistan and the government is committed to the province’s development. He vowed to work with the people of Balochistan to defeat elements seeking unrest.
Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to a peaceful and democratic struggle for Balochistan’s rights and expressed hope that the government would ensure timely implementation of all agreed measures.
