Quran Aims to End Systems of Oppression, Says JI Secretary General Ameerul Azeem
Lahore, March 8: Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameerul Azeem has said that the fundamental purpose of the Holy Quran is to eliminate systems of oppression and injustice, emphasizing that the welfare of humanity and the establishment of global peace are only possible through the implementation of the Quranic system.
He expressed these views while addressing the concluding ceremony of the Dora-e-Tafseer-ul-Quran at Mansoorah Mosque in Lahore.
Ameerul Azeem said the Holy Quran is a source of divine guidance and a guarantee for the well-being of humanity. It replaces systems of tyranny imposed on the world with a system based on compassion, brotherhood, goodwill, and devotion to Allah, he added.
The ceremony was also addressed by JI Vice-Emir Dr Ataur Rehman, Deputy Secretary General Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi. Among those present were Secretary Information Shakil Ahmed Turabi, Hafiz Saifur Rehman and Dr Inayat ur Rehman.
Around 400 male students and 150 female students from across Pakistan participated in the Tafseer course, while thousands of men and women from around the world completed the program online.
Ameerul Azeem said the Quran is a fountain of wisdom and guidance for those striving to transform society. He noted that although political independence was achieved nearly three quarters of a century ago, the country has yet to free itself from the oppressive colonial system and its agents.
He stressed that Pakistan cannot progress without reforms in the judicial, educational, and economic systems. “The curse of an interest-based economy and mounting debts has shattered the dreams of development and prosperity,” he said, adding that rulers in the Muslim world have accumulated vast wealth in banks, but these resources remain unused for the benefit of the Muslim Ummah.
The JI leader further criticized Muslim rulers for attempting to portray themselves as servants of Islam through advertisements every Ramadan, while failing to reform themselves or their governance. “True Islam is the one that grants dignity and honor to the Ummah. A version of Islam shaped by the preferences of rulers cannot bring meaningful change,” he said, adding that the hypocritical attitude of leaders has become the biggest obstacle to the establishment of Islam.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ataur Rehman said that if even one Muslim country had truly implemented the Islamic system, Israel and the United States would not have dared to attack Iran.
He said Iran is standing alone against the United States and Israel while thousands of Muslims are being martyred and innocent children are being killed in bombings of schools. “The Muslim world is merely watching as a spectator,” he said, adding that if the Muslim Ummah united against oppression, the United States and Israel would be forced to retreat.
Dr Ataur Rehman also said Israel has been accusing Iran of developing nuclear weapons for the past 30 years, yet no conclusive evidence has been produced to prove that Iran possesses such weapons.
