Jamaat-e-Islami Holds Nationwide Protests for Petroleum Price Cut
Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar: June 19: Nationwide protests were held across the country on Friday following a call by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, demanding a reduction in petroleum product prices and relief for inflation-hit citizens.
A large number of people participated in demonstrations organized in major cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta and several other districts. Jamaat-e-Islami’s central, provincial and district leadership led the protests, while participants carried banners and placards against rising fuel prices and the growing cost of living.
The protesters strongly criticized government policies, demanding immediate reduction in petrol and diesel prices. Speakers said the public was facing severe economic pressure and urged the authorities to cut unnecessary expenditures and provide relief instead of increasing the burden on ordinary citizens.
In Lahore, a major protest was addressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore chief Ziauddin Ansari, while Islamabad’s demonstration was led by district leadership. In Peshawar, activists staged a protest outside the Governor House, while demonstrations were also organized at several key locations in Karachi.
In Karachi, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and local representatives addressed gatherings in different parts of the city, including Kala Pull, North Karachi and other areas, calling for a reduction in petroleum prices and an end to inflationary policies.
Protests were also held across Punjab, including in Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Jhang and other districts. Leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami addressed the gatherings and demanded economic relief for the masses.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, demonstrations were reported from areas including Hazara region, Mardan, Charsadda, Dir, Chitral, Mohmand and other districts. Speakers highlighted the impact of high fuel prices on transportation, agriculture and daily life.
Sindh also witnessed widespread protests in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Jacobabad and several other districts, with participants calling for lower fuel prices and measures to control inflation.
Similar demonstrations were held in Balochistan and other parts of the country, where local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders addressed protesters.
The party leadership reiterated that the movement against inflation would continue until meaningful relief was provided to the people and petroleum prices were brought down.
