JI Emir Meets Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Raja Nasir Abbas Over AJK Situation
Islamabad, June 28: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman held separate meetings with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as part of efforts to engage political and religious leadership over the prevailing situation in Azad Kashmir.
During the meetings held in Islamabad, the leaders discussed the situation in Azad Kashmir, the ongoing dialogue process, and ways to resolve the matter peacefully.
The JI delegation included Vice Emir Mian Muhammad Aslam, AJK Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Mushtaq Khan, Special Assistant to JI Emir Mian Atta Ur Rehman, Head of Media Cell Salman Sheikh, Secretary Information Shakil Ahmed Tarabi, while JUI’s Central Digital Media Coordinator Engineer Zia Ur Rehman was also present.
Talking to the media after his meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman said the situation in Azad Kashmir was extremely concerning and the Kashmir issue was highly sensitive. “For 80 years, we have stood on one position regarding Kashmir,” he said.
He said that the government demonstrated poor judgment, which worsened the situation, but added that there was now hope that a way forward could be found through dialogue.
“Any step that further deteriorates the situation will be harmful for Pakistan. The government should come forward and initiate talks,” Hafiz Naeem said, adding that the base camp of the Kashmir freedom movement could never be alienated. He stressed that all stakeholders who could play an effective role should be included in the dialogue process.
The JI chief also appealed to the Joint Awami Action Committee to avoid steps that could further worsen the situation, while urging the people of Kashmir to refrain from actions that could benefit Pakistan’s adversaries. He said elections were approaching in Azad Kashmir and creating a conducive environment was the responsibility of the government and the Election Commission. “Peace and normalcy are essential for holding free and peaceful elections,” he added.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman thanked Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman and the delegation for visiting him. He said Kashmiris had always carried out their struggle under the Pakistani flag and stressed that the issue should be resolved through wisdom and understanding rather than emotions. He said a delegation of Kashmiri leadership had earlier met him with a letter from the Joint Action Committee, and he had expressed willingness to play his role after seeking time. “I had suggested postponing the sit-in. Although the protest continued, no further step was taken,” Maulana Fazlur Rehman said. He added that the government was also holding consultations and should clarify its position so that political leaders could play their role effectively. “I am ready to talk to the government on the Kashmir issue,” he said.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman stressed that decisions based on force should be avoided and a peaceful environment was necessary for elections in Azad Kashmir.
Earlier, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, along with his delegation, met Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI Emir said the situation in Azad Kashmir was alarming and efforts were being made to prevent further deterioration.
“Peace must be given a chance in every situation. Even if an issue is suppressed through force, it can have far-reaching consequences,” he said.
Hafiz Naeem said dialogue would take place within the constitutional framework of Pakistan. He added that the positive approach of the Joint Action Committee encouraged them to begin their efforts.
“There is no disagreement over public demands. Differences on other issues can also be resolved through dialogue,” he said.
Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said significant damage had already occurred and “there is a need to heal wounds.” He warned that increasing mistrust was dangerous.
He said Kashmiris had always raised the Pakistani flag and added that the people of Azad Kashmir could never be left alone. “We will try to resolve the issue through dialogue,” he said.
