JI Emir to meet President, PM Over AJK crisis, welcomes mediation offer by JAAC
ISLAMABAD- June 27: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has decided to play its role in resolving the ongoing crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), saying that the current critical situation cannot be left at the mercy of circumstances.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by JI Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman in Islamabad. The meeting decided that Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman would hold meetings with the President, Prime Minister of Pakistan and other national leadership to help bring the situation back to normal.
The JI chief also constituted a committee to engage with the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and prepare recommendations for practical steps towards resolving the crisis.
The meeting welcomed the Joint Action Committee’s offer of mediation to Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, stating that the prevailing situation in AJK was unacceptable and required immediate attention.
The participants reaffirmed that the people of Kashmir have an unwavering and historic bond with Pakistan, which remains beyond any doubt.
The meeting was attended by JI Vice Emir Mian Muhammad Aslam, AJK JI Emir Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, former JI AJK chiefs Abdul Rasheed Turabi and Dr Khalid Mahmood Khan, Secretary General Jahangir Khan, Islamabad Emir Nasrullah Randhawa, Vice Emirs Noor-ul-Bari and Raja Muhammad Fazal, along with other senior party leaders from Pakistan and AJK.
The meeting expressed concern over the three-week-long lockdown in AJK, which has led to the closure of some internal routes and caused difficulties for people in accessing basic necessities, including medicines.
The participants urged the government of Pakistan to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential items to the affected population.
The JI leadership said that Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman would continue consultations with the national leadership and relevant stakeholders to find a peaceful solution to the uncertainty and deteriorating situation in Azad Kashmir.
